Workshops at the Palmer Museum offer opportunities to learn deeply about art through hands-on creative processes and in-depth guided exploration. See below for information about upcoming workshops or to register.SUMMER 2025 WORKSHOPS
This summer, a variety of single-session workshops are inspired by the special exhibition "Washi Transformed" and offer exploration of the material of paper. All workshops require advance registration and a fee of $35 ($30 for Penn State students and museum members and volunteers). More information, along with registration links, is included below and sorted by workshop date.
FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This hands-on workshop with instructor Brandi Breslin is designed for beginners to learn the basics of making handmade paper. Be prepared to get wet as you plunge your hands into a vat of recycled paper pulp. Learn to use a mold and deckle, experiment with adding colorful inclusions, and create a small portfolio of sheets to take home for future projects. This workshop is for adults and teens 13+ (teens must be accompanied by a participating adult)Register for June 13
SATURDAY, JUNE 14 | 1 to 4 p.m.

Join Patrick McGrady, Charles V. Hallman Senior Curator and expert on works on paper, for an in-depth, object study session about the history of paper and its use as an artistic medium. SATURDAY, JULY 12 | 2 to 4 p.m.
Join instructor Brandi Breslin to transform ordinary paper into unique, handcrafted gift wrap using a variety of techniques, including painting, printing, and stenciling. Create personalized designs and participate in a group painting process to take home a variety of paper designs. All supplies will be provided and shared among workshop participants. This workshop is for adults and teens 13+ (teens must be accompanied by a participating adult).Register for July 12
THURSDAY, JULY 31 | 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
