Join actor John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown, The Old Man) as he goes back to school to demonstrate the transformative power of arts education. Immersing himself with teachers and students, he explores four arts disciplines: dance, ceramics, silk-screen printing, and vocal jazz ensemble. Celebrating how arts education nurtures and inspires the hearts and minds of students of all ages, the program features organizations, including Self Help Graphics & Art, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA).

Family Day: Art in Bloom

Visitors of all ages will enjoy gallery activities and art-making opportunities related to the special exhibition, The Triumph of Nature.

APPLICATIONS DUE for Intern Recruitment | Fall 2025

Interns work 8–10 hours per week, contributing to ongoing projects and department needs. Positions are available in all museum departments, including curatorial, education, communications and social media, digital projects, visitor services, collections management, and preparation. Internships are eligible for course credit, volunteer hours, or wages (ONLY for grant-funded projects and students who qualify for Community Service Federal Work Study).

Art After Hours: Poetry and Paint

Get creative, connect with others, and learn about self-care art techniques, while taking time to relax and rejuvenate before final exams. Prioritize self-care with therapeutic art practices, build community with other creative people, and get inspired during an ekphrastic poetry tour through the galleries, led by students in the Poetry Club.

Paper Workshop: From Pulp to Page

This hands-on workshop with instructor Brandi Breslin is designed for beginners to learn the basics of making handmade paper. Be prepared to get wet as you plunge your hands into a vat of recycled paper pulp. Learn to use a mold and deckle, experiment with adding colorful inclusions, and create a small portfolio of sheets to take home for future projects. Community Day: Paper Play

Noon to 4 p.m.
Spend a summer day at the art museum and enjoy a variety of activities related to paper! Inspired by the special exhibition Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper, this program will feature brief “art blast” gallery talks throughout the day as well as several art and craft projects made with paper. All ages are welcome. Drop-in, no advance registration required.

Curator Connections Workshop: Paper History

Join Patrick McGrady, Charles V. Hallman Senior Curator and expert on works on paper, for an in-depth, object study session about the history of paper and its use as an artistic medium. Artist Talk: Washi Artist Yuko Kimura

Michael J. and Aimee Rusinko Kakos Galleries
Join printmaker and paper artist Yuko Kimura for an in-gallery talk on her works in special exhibition Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper. Kimura’s work incorporates experimental processes, including etching, aquatint, monotype, indigo dye, and cyanotype on pleated, stitched, or twisted paper, often using handmade papers or old book pages from Japan.
2025 Summer Workshops
Summer workshops at the Palmer Museum offer opportunities to learn deeply about art through hands-on creative processes and in-depth guided exploration.
This summer, a variety of single-session workshops are inspired by the special exhibition Washi Transformed and offer exploration of the material of paper. All workshops require advance registration and a fee of $35 ($30 for Penn State students and museum members and volunteers).
