Enid Hennessy Schneider Galleries

The first series of galleries on the ground floor, the three Enid Hennessy Schneider Galleries introduce visitors to American art from the permanent collection. The thematic presentation of paintings and sculpture from the first half of the twentieth century highlights the development of modernism in America, including abstraction in the 1940s, dynamic large-scale figure paintings, and myriad urban street scenes. Benefitting from a spacious double-height pavilion, these galleries are interspersed with surprising juxtapositions that probe questions around American identity, geography, and experience.
