The Global Majority presents a selection of photographs and prints inspired by Frederick Douglass’s 1861 lecture “Pictures and Progress,” within which he stressed the power of pictures, namely photographs, to counter racist stereotypes by giving Black Americans the power to control their own image. Portraits and visual representations of figures from underrepresented communities will be on view, championing the humanity of those pictured.

 

Featured artists include Isaac Scott, Donald Camp, Walter Iooss, Carrie Mae Weems, Ruth Morgan, Rashid Johnson, Matika Wilbur, Kristin Capp, and Vincent Valdez.
